County Competitions
Indoor 5 a side Trophy
This is another new competition this season and saw 10 teams from around the city competing at Soccarena on Monday 18th January. The schools were divided up into 2 groups of 5 with games lasting 5 minutes each way. A BIG thank you to the referees from Gilesgate 6th Form who did a sterling job. Both groups were very tight ( including a thrilling 6-6 draw between Shincliffe and Bearpark) and required goal difference to separate the top three teams. Eventually after a quick numeracy session the semi finals were revealed as St Margaret's v St Patrick's and Brandon v Kelloe. Again two very keenly contested matches were played. Kelloe came back from 0-2 down to win 5-3 and St Margaret's managed to beat St Patrick's by the same score.
So to the final - a fantastic example of fast paced, end to end primary school football. Kelloe (yellow/blue) and St Margaret's (red) could not be separated at full time and went into extra time at 2-2. With penalties looming Kelloe managed to score the winner and were delighted to lift the trophy. They will now go on to represent Durham City in the County semi-finals later this term. We wish them the best of luck.
